What to look for in a dinner plate
Colour
It is unfortunately quite likely that your new plates will, at some time get chipped. Remember that darker colours will show the chips and lighter colours will tend to hide them. Darker colours also have a better chance of fading.
But darker ones can look dramatic and one of the latest trends is to mix up colours for a creative table - e.g. red dinner plates, bright yellow soup bowls, and light blue salad plates.
Style
Think about how your new plates will look with your other tableware. They need to be complementary. Recent developments have been to go for square plates - an influence from Asia. They have the advantage of not only looking good, but also making better use of space in the dushwasher. You’d need to be happy, though, that they wouldn’t clash with your other tableware.
